The Decline Of My Mother's Health Part 3!
My uncle seemed to have stabilized so my father decided that he would bring my mother to Arizona so that she could spend Passover with all of us. Passover is celebrated by the Jewish people. The first two nights of Passover consist of two Seders where the story of Passover is read from a Haggadah which tells the story of the Jewish People's Exodus from Egypt. There are Prayers and stories and singing and alot of food. On Passover you must avoid Chametz. Chametz is anything which is leavened since there was no time for the Jewish people to let their bread rise when they rushed out of Egypt. The Passover Seders are a wonderful time for families and friends to all get together.
My parents used to come every single month to visit all of us but since Ryan and my uncle's passings and my mother not doing well that hadn't made too many trips. My mother was now walking with a walker and we knew that the trip would be way to difficult for her so my father got her a wheelchair. The trip to Phoenix took an entire day with a stop either in Chicago, Dallas or somewhere else. It usually took no less than 8 hours but my father knew that he had to do this so that my girls could spend Passover with my mother. My parents arrived on March 27, 2007 and my mother was totally exhausted. It was a long trip. It also took a toll on my father as he was the one taking care of her but of course he never said a word and he never complained at all. He just did what he thought he should do. My mother's health was going downhill very quickly. She was choking all of the time. Her speech was so slurred that it was so hard to understand her so she started writing everything down. It was so so so sad. We took my mother out every day as it was much easier to get around in Phoenix due to the beautiful weather here. My mother loved being around the girls and she was actually enjoying herself. It was a big change from her normal routine back home. My mother was actually using her walker in the house and not the wheelchair and she would walk up and down my tiled hallways and she was happy doing it. We were just so happy that she was there with all of us.
It was time for the first Passover Seder. My father and I had been preparing all day long. Actually my father had done ALL of the cooking. Like I have said many times before he's an amazing man!!!! My father was about to jump into the shower and I was busy in the kitchen when I heard my Binki barking nonstop. My Binki always barked but this sounded very different. I turned my head and saw that my mother was in the hallway choking! I freaked out and ran over to my mother. Then of course not dealing with things the way a normal person (since Ryan passed away) would I took my mother with me to grab the phone to call 911. I was freaking out. My mother was choking and I freaked out so much that I wasn't doing anything but making her walk with me while I was on the phone with 911. I was walking her over to my father and at the same time I was screaming for my father while I was on the phone with the people at 911. They were so kind. I kept apologizing and they kept telling me not to worry. They were asking me all kinds of questions and all I remember is that there was foam coming out of my mother's mouth as she was choking. I remember thinking that my mother was dying right before my eyes and I couldn't so anything about it. I was almost at my parents room and I was screaming at the top of my lungs for my father. He came rushing out and saw what was happening and within a second he had dis logged a piece of banana that my mother had been choking on. Within a second she was fine. I had no idea that there had been food in my mother's mouth. I just thought that she was dying before my eyes. I started hysterically crying and shaking. I remember asking my father how did he know there was food in her mouth and all he said was that's what the foam was. I hadn't been thinking at all and I had just panicked and just thought my mother was dying in my house. My poor mother felt so bad for me that she just kept apologizing. I keep telling her she didn't need to apologize. I kept telling her that she hadn't done anything wrong....
